The son of Russian immigrants, Joe "Doc" Alexander played for Syracuse University while studying for his medical degree. He played football in the NFL for seven years and was the first player signed to the up and coming New York Giants team with whom he won his first NFL championship. Doc retired in 1927 to complete his medical degree.
